Once the novelty of getting invited to a party wears off, you are left with one thought after a while – how many times are you supposed to get dandied up in black tie and tuxedo to go make small talk over drinks with people? If you are planning a party, you could conceivably go with a costume party theme the next time around. There’s something about getting dressed up in costume that gets people dizzy with excitement. Mention the idea of throwing a costume party, and people have their imaginations run wild. Of course, the nice thing to do throwing a costume party would be giving people themes to go with. Perhaps it could be a roaring twenties flapper costume party, or a Roman toga party.
Your toga costume party decorations don’t have to be historically accurate of course. You aren’t planning a film set. What you’re looking for is a general sense in your decorations that suggests Roman decadence and a general period atmosphere. How about considering plates, cups or napkins, and decorations, made out to look golden? Party stores usually stock decorations and party supplies in gold (no, not the real yellow metal). For a real Roman atmosphere, consider finding decorations made to look like golden laurel garlands to drape about the room. You could get Roman columns spray-painted gold to have stand about too.
For a roaring twenties costume themed party, you could create a speakeasy atmosphere, with jazz music and booze served out of unlabeled bottles. All the ladies in their sexy flapper costumes will show up to dance the charleston and lindy hop.
