What color was the famous diamond which starred in the movie ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ starring Audrey Hepburn? We had this question thrown at us at a quiz night recently and everyone present thought that it must be colorless but they were wrong. In fact the diamond was one of the Worlds largest yellow diamonds weighing in at a massive 128 Karats! Cut into a pillow shaped crystal the diamond has been displayed in a number of settings but it is currently set in the ‘Bird on a Rock’ Brooch, designed by the famous Tiffany jeweler Jean Schlumberger. Although there are a number of larger yellow diamonds, the ‘Tiffany Yellow Diamond‘ will always have a special place in the affection of the public due to it’s association with the movie.
Being both Nature lovers and History buffs we decided that we would like to try and combine both interests in one vacation this year and perhaps surprisingly decided to go on the Disney Pacific Coast Cruise. Both of us are newcomers to the idea of World Cruises but decided that we would give this a go as we did not want to spend hours a day behind the wheel. Well what a triumph! Entering a city from the sea is the only way to do it, no traffic, tolls, hotels to find etc, and passing through the Golden Gate and under the bridge into San Francisco Bay was, judging from the comments of others on board, one of the highlights of many of their lives (yes mine included!) – We saw Whales breaching on numerous occasions as well as Sharks, Seals and Dolphins. The accomodation and food on board was first rate and we would love to go again. Maybe Hawaii next time!
