The Full Halloween History review

Posted by onestopshop on Sunday, 11 September, 2011

This October millions and millions of people all over the globe will celebrate the holiday of Halloween. But very few of these people will have virtually any idea where Halloween came from. In fact, many would be surprised to learn that Halloween history dates back more than two thousand years ago. Halloween history is an interesting subject for sure; here are some of the overviews of Halloween history for you to understand it better.

As I mentioned above, the story of Halloween history goes back several thousand years to an ancient tribe of people called the Celts. The Celts lived in what is now known today as Ireland and marked the end of October as a day for celebration. They marked this date as the end of the growing season and the beginning of a long and dark winter, which was dangerously lethal back then. The built giant bonfires and sacrificed food and animals to the gods, thanking them for a bountiful harvest and pleading for divine protection for the harsh months ahead. They danced around the bonfires in various animal costumes to appease the gods – from this, we get the Halloween costumes today.

The Irish continued to celebrate this harvest ceremony up to the spread of Christianity to the British Isles. The pope recognized that it is easier to create new holidays to replace or transform the old pagan ways and made November First, All Saints’ Day in an attempt to bring a different religious aspect to the holiday.

Halloween history took another turn when the Irish began immigrating into the United States of America throughout the nineteenth century. They brought with them the tradition of going door to door and asking for treats or baked goods from neighbors. This practice mutated more in the United States as civic leaders wanted to transform the holiday to a larger community event, and in the early twentieth century, Halloween festivities were conducted, by and large in community centers, until the mid of the century, where it returned to the neighborhoods.

Halloween history is full and rich with stories and tradition. It moved from a pagan ceremony celebrating the harvest, to a religious experience to finally the community event it is today. Learning just a little bit about Halloween history has allowed me to appreciate a little more the full spectrum of Halloween and I enjoy the holiday that much more – I hope you do too! for more about halloween please visit kid halloween costumes ideas

Making a Native American Indian Costume

Halloween is known as a fun and exciting time for kids of every age group, and a lot of kids wish to be different things, or frightening. Perhaps you should buy a Native American Indian costume? It’s a basic process so don’t get started being freaked out or stressed. The outfit may also be used past only Halloween. Your kids can put it on for Thanksgiving holiday, school performances, Halloween parties, and more instances. There are however, a number of things that you are going to need. Below are a few easy and simple measures to be certain you get the job done efficiently.

Begin by getting a tan shirt that is too big for your child or you for that matter. This costume can be used for both children and adults alike. Make sure that the shirt comes at least to mid-thigh to get the best outcome and look. Having a shirt that’s longer allows for a more fringed look in the arms and at the bottom of the shirt .

Use shapes like a diamond or a square to make a potato stamp. Making a potato stamp is super easy; simply cut a potato in two pieces and then make the needed shape into the potato’s flesh, or you can also use a regular stamp bought from the store.

Take one of several imprints you’ve made and put it in either clothing or acrylic colour. Make sure to try your stamp out on a piece of test cloth to make sure it’s what you want. If it is, grab the stamp and make a pattern that repeats along the chest of the shirt of the Native American Indian costume. Use a paint brush and paint to design lines both on the top as well as underneath the design.

After you have painted the designs on the shirt of your Native American Indian costume, let it dry for about 15 minutes. Once it is, place it in the dryer alone and put it to tumble for approximately 10 minutes or longer A blow dryer can also be used to help dry and set the paint This is going to help set the paint in place.

Next you are going to need scissors to cut the fringes and the collar out. Cut the collar to mke it bigger, and cut fringes in the sleeves. Be sure that they measure between 1/2 inch and an inch as they are going to get smaller when you wash the Native American indian costume.

To finish off the Native American Indian costume, get a leather cloth and wear it around the forehead. You can use a feather to place in the headband as well. Some ideas for accessories that can be worn as well include leather around the arms and wrists, as well as a choker around the neck. To add a more detailed look, you can add beads to the fringes as well as the headband for girls.

Kids Can wear Native American Indian Costumes as well. Bring out the spirt of the warrior in your young ones.

Men can wear a pair of tan pants to go with their Native American Indian costume. Girls can wear their shirt as a dress as long as it is long enough For shoes, consider moccasins or suede shoes that are zipper free .

Universal Studios Monster Costumes

Posted by Tatiana Barrios on Thursday, 14 July, 2011

Costuming became popular for Halloween parties in America in the early 1900s, as often for adults as for children. The first mass-produced Halloween costumes appeared in stores in the 1930s when trick-or-treating was becoming popular in the United States.

What sets Halloween costumes apart from costumes for other celebrations or days of dressing up is that they are often designed to imitate supernatural and scary beings. Monster Costumes are traditionally those of monsters such as vampires, ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils, or in more recent years such science fiction-inspired characters as aliens and superheroes. What has been missing over the years are the what I think was the golden age of horror movies. Monsters such as Frankenstein Costume, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and last but not least the Bride of Frankenstein. These monsters came to the screen by Universal Studios and you will be happy to know that these costumes are available.

Go Blue: Smurf and Navy

Posted by Linker on Friday, 13 May, 2011

Any fan of the nineties would remember watching the cartoon, the Smurfs. These little blue creatures were famous for their antics and clashes with the evil forest wizard, Gargamel. In a likeness to the seven dwarfs, the Smurfs were named after their personalities like Jokey, Dreamy, Grouchy, Vanity, Lazy, and Clumsy. They were also named after their professions such as Painter, Tailor, Miner, Architect, Reporter, Timber, Barber and Doctor Smurf. These simple beings were loved by children all over the world.

There attire was basically a pair of white pants and a white hat. The smurf costume is modeled after them. It is a body suit with white pants that also serve as shoes. The top is blue fabric with long sleeves and gloves since you would not want to paint yourself blue. The hat is just like the white hats they wear on the show.

If you are not into cartoons, then why not dress as your favorite branch of the military? The Navy has been a protector of your country’s waters for centuries. They risk their lives on ships and are usually the first defense when enemies come to the borders. You can honor these brave soldiers by donning their respected uniforms.

The navy costume is dressed in a white suit and slacks. The coat has pleated pockets with gold buttons. The suit and pants may be embroidered with black and gold to give it a regal appearance. The uniform is finally topped off with a cap worthy of any sailor captain.

Zombie Costumes Are Perfect For Halloween Fun

Posted by David Whitman on Tuesday, 3 May, 2011

There’s no better way to enjoy the holiday then with a costume that will be the scariest in the neighborhood. Nothing fits that image better than a Zombie Costume. Being brought back to life by some crazy witch doctor seems incredibly fun for Halloween don’t you think? In fact, I think that’s what this holiday is all about.

Since this is one holiday that is all about the scare and being one awful looking “undead” person is something that you can really play around with. The best Zombie Costumes are the ones that are very shredded and tattered looking. Combine that with lots of fake blood and you’ll be sure to look like you’ve just risen from the dead. When you add a dead man’s wig with long and scraggly hair you’ll be sure to scare even yourself when you look in the mirror so just think what everyone else will say about you, even this years costume judge.

Star Wars Costumes For Halloween

Posted by Linker on Tuesday, 1 March, 2011

If you have seen all Star Wars’ episodes, you know that the Imperial Stormtroopers are the soldiers from the Star Wars universe. These Jango Fett clones (Attack of the Clones) are the personal army of Emperor Palpatine and of his commanders in the Dark Side. They are easily identifiable in the saga not only because of their sheer number, but also due to the white battle armor they normally wear and the single machine-gun-looking blaster rifle they carry. The armor set sheaths the body from tip to toe and has no distinguishing marking outside of rank (unlike real military uniforms). In some scenes in the saga, you’ll see stormtroopers wear camouflage armor to help them blend in with whatever surroundings they find themselves in. For instance, there are sand troopers, and they aren’t wearing white- of course.

You can be one of Darth Vader’s cool-looking evil minions. The set consists of a black jumpsuit that has molded plastic pieces in the armor. The pieces are the chest plates plus the lower back pieces, a codpiece, belt, shoulder and bicep plastic pads, gloves, and thigh, knee, and shin guards. The black gauntlets are also included. The best part of all, the package comes with a collector’s edition mask/helmet to add to the realness of this terrific outfit. However, the deadly blaster rifle and the white Stormtrooper boots are sold separately.

This costume comes in an adult standard size so it can fit most adults comfortably. Again, just check the dimensions even before you buy it. The Stormtrooper costume is indeed one of the coolest ensembles you could ever find. Besides this, you can also go for other characters in Star Wars like Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader costumes.

What Are You Wearing This Halloween?

Posted by Linker on Monday, 28 February, 2011

Halloween is nonetheless a time for any woman to explore any character she wants to be. And the top choice for most ladies would be wearing a sexy outfit. Thanks to creative costume manufacturers, many of the ‘for men only’ and ‘lifted from real-life career’ uniforms are turned into titillating attires for women to enjoy. Here are some of your options:

Matador Costume

Being a bullfighter is no longer for the males only. Ladies out there could experience how to fend off such a fiery creature with various daring Matador outfits. If you want to go for the traditional look, grab the attire composed of a plain shirt with detached collar, jacket and knee-length pants.

For much sexier versions, opt for the stretch romper with scoop neckline and cropped jacket. Another rendition is comprised of knee-length jumpsuit with frill details, bolero jacket with tie front, attached red cape and broad pleated sash.

Complete all these looks with white knee highs, any type of black shoes, Spanish bullfighter style hat and of course the red cape.

Stewardess Costume

Being a stewardess is no longer just an in-flight airline servant. You could make such professional look into a more titillating character. Typically, the stewardess uniform is interpreted as a sexy mini dress with scoop neckline, with or without collar and front buttons. Accessories like envelope hat, buckled belt, satin neck tie, kerchief or scarf are crucial pieces to this look.

Finally, wearing knee-high boots and your hair arranged in a perfect bun or bouncy curls would complete this look.

Different Halloween Costumes

Posted by Linker on Friday, 25 February, 2011

The samurai were the warrior-scholar class from an older period of Japanese history. Today, the samurai no longer exist as an institution, but their influence lives on.

Most depictions of samurai that we see portray them in full war regalia – that is, wearing their armor. For the average samurai costume, this is a league apart. Armor, even costume armor, is expensive, heavy, and uncomfortable. As such, you are more likely to find the everyday, “off-duty” wear for samurais as a costume.

This stripped-down affair includes a Far Eastern styled robe, with motif prints. This is far more comfortable and easier to put on than armor! Cool, soft, and just loose enough, it should be a great choice for long costume parties. Complete the warrior look by getting a katana to go with it!

As for the Monster Bride Costume, it makes the most sense if you know the character it was based on. Remember Frankenstein’s Monster (sometimes called simply “Frankenstein”)? Well, in the sequel to that movie, Doctor Frankenstein and his partner create another homunculus from dead body parts. This second time around, they created a female, with the hopes of providing companionship for the Monster.

Unfortunately, the Monster Bride didn’t like the Monster. Oh well. What matters to us here is her outfit in the movie. She wore a white dress and tattered bandages, but most importantly her hair was done high and back, with white lightning bolt designs running down the sides. Now you know why the costumes look as they do!
