It Won’t Be Long Before We See a Sub $ 100 Kindle Reader

The Amazon Kindle e-book reader is Amazon’s best selling product of all time. It’s been the number one selling item on the Amazon website for more than eighteen months now and swept the boards over the festive sales season during both 2009 and 2010. The original Kindle launched way back in November of 2007, and it cost $ 399 at that time. The Kindle 2.0 was released in February of 2009, by which time the price had fallen to $ 359. In August of 2010, the Kindle 3 was released with the Wi-Fi only entry level model selling for just $ 139.

Now Amazon has announced that the Kindle with Special Offers model will start shipping from May 3 2011, and the price is going to be just $ 114. This “new” Kindle is exactly the same as the standard $ 139 Wi-Fi model – but it has adverts on the screen saver pages and at the bottom of the home screen menu.

Based upon these historical prices, it won’t be very much longer before we see a Kindle on sale for less than $ 100.
