Vertical Farming – The New Soil-less Farming Method

This entry was posted by Hydroponics Harry on Tuesday, 1 November, 2011

Hydroponics gardening has become increasingly popular, with a large variety of fruit and vegetables being grown using hydroponics farming techniques and methods.

Tomatoes grown on the vine, strawberries, lettuce, spinach, and fresh herbs are all commonly grown using hydroponics.

This can be seen by the presence of roots on the produce that we buy.

The reason for the switch to hydroponics cultivation is the simple fact that hydroponics farming is much more efficient than traditional soil gardening in many respects.

Firstly, more plants can be grown per unit area with hydroponics gardening when compared to traditional agriculture. This is particularly true when vertical farming techniques are employed. In fact up to 50x more produce have been reported to be grown per unit area.

Other benefits include the reduced requirement for pesticides and herbicides, quicker plant growth and development, and markedly reduced water consumption.
